Arkansas

From Amarillo, we headed east to Weatherford, OK. Maddie pointed out, Carrie Underwood was mistaken in her song “Blown Away,” there definitely is enough wind in Oklahoma. We visited the Stafford Air & Space Museum and learned lots. The hit of the museum was the space themed outdoor playground. The kids played for hours and made some new friends. The wind howled last night, keeping us up. This morning we tried out Dutch Bros coffee to see what all the hype was about, Rye was not impressed but I thought the coconut mocha was pretty darn good. We forget how lucky we are in Missoula to have coffee shops on every corner. Today, we headed to Arkansas. We did stop at an OK BBQ joint (per Rye’s request) in Okemah, OK. It was called John’s BBQ. We got ribs, brisket, and smoked turkey. The pitmaster served us and gave Rye a tour of his smoker. He was a good ol’ Oklahoma boy. We landed in Fort Smith, AR and are staying next to the Arkansas River. There is a bike park nearby that we enjoyed this afternoon.

    1. This was a true-blue Oklahoma BBQ joint and it was sooooo good. We basically sat and ate our BBQ with the pitmaster. Telling him about our trip and just asking him questions about BBQ. The tour of his smokehouse was icing on the cake.
